Berkeley Massage and Self-Healing Center has been a healing oasis in downtown Berkeley since 1969. We offer many forms of holistic massage and bodywork, including Esalen, Swedish and deep tissue massage, acupressure, prenatal and postpartum massage, myofascial-release, Reiki, Shiatsu, and cranio-sacral therapy. We also offer nutritional counseling and supplements. Berkeley Massage and Self-Healing Center is dedicated to supporting our clients in their healing process. Unique to the Center, in 35 years of operation, there have never been employees. It is interesting to note that all the owners have been massage therapists who saw clients as well as ran the business. By 1988, the partners decided to restructure its format into the collectively run business that it is today. Five partners remained, and the running of the business was divided equally among them. In 1991, the name changed to The Berkeley Massage and Self-Healing Center. The owners felt that the new name better represented the variety of modalities being offered as well as reflected their philosophy of healing. The Center continues to provide a broad range of therapeutic bodywork to the community. We are celebrating our 35th year in business and intend to remain a Berkeley establishment for a long time to come. |

In 1969, in the midst of anti-war protests and the civil
rights movement, the Berkeley Massage Studio was born. People were searching
for new ways of communicating, and bodywork was one of the non-violent
and peaceful communication mediums being discovered.
